The Vision
We use the finest quality leather, this is full-grain leather and it refers to hides that have not been sanded or buffed to remove imperfections or natural marks on the surface of the hide. The full-grain remains allowing the fiber strength and durability. We embrace these imperfections on the hides through quality, keeping each product uniquely crafted. All products are hand-stitched with 1mm polyester wax thread, this thread is much more durable than standard cotton thread and ensures the long life of all leather goods.

At Chili Customs we only use Full-grain and/or Top-grain leather types. These leather hides are processed with vegetable and bark extracts in the tannery(a place where animal hides are tanned; the workshop of a tanner). This is called vegetable tanned leather, it can be considered eco-friendly as there are no harmful chemicals used in the production of the leather hides. If toxic or harmful chemicals are used to produced leather, it can have severe impact on the environment and workers handling the leather.
For thousands of years, all sewing was done by hand. The invention of the sewing machine in the 19th century and the rise of computerization in the 20th century led to mass production and export of sewn objects, but hand sewing is still practiced around the world. Fine hand sewing is a characteristic of high-quality tailoring, haute couture fashion, and custom dressmaking, and is pursued by both textile artists and hobbyists as a means of creative expression.
